The “Sobering Center” has reverted from a county agency to become a part of Christus St Vincent. While there are already individuals taking AA meetings into this “closed” environment (7 pm; Tuesday and Friday), we’ve been contacted to determine if meetings could be added on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday? Contacts; Adam or Annette, 992-6740.

If you are coming to Santa Fe for the area assembly in March, you will be pleased to know that Courtyard Marriott has offered a special “assembly rate” of $62 a night. The catch is that this rate has an expiration date that is quite soon. In order to get the rate you will need to register at the Courtyard Marriott before 5pm on Friday (2/26).

My name is Olivia Ogorek and I have the privilege to serve as district 2 DCM(district committee member). Did you know that district 2 covers the Santa Fe, Abiquiu, Cerrillos, Rowe, Galisteo, Pecos and Madrid communities? In those communities there are 90+ meetings and only a few registered groups. The groups GSR(General Service Representative) is the voice of the groups conscience. Trusted Servants, GSR’s and Committee Chairpersons meet the second Tuesday of each month, 6:30-7:30pm in the hospitals board room to share ideas, report happenings and to share our experience, strength and hope with one another. Also during the district meeting Committee Chairs share briefly on what has transpired in their committees. The El Farolito (our Area(NM) Newsletter) and Central Office are also represented. You might be asking yourself What Committees?
Service is about reaching out, educating and informing, letting anyone reaching out for help to know that the hand of AA is there. This is what the committees strive to accomplish. The committees are: Public Information, Cooperation with the Professional Community, Corrections, Treatment Facilities, Archives, Bridge the Gap, District and State Functions, Entertainment/Events, Spanish Outreach and Webmaster. There are a few committees waiting for those persons who are ready to step into a fuller aspect of service. Are you that person?
This year holds much promise and excitement in our AA community and the electronic age can assist us in becoming better informed with our Recovery, Unity and Service. I suggest and encourage all members to check out ourAA websites:
Santafeaa.org and newmexicoaa.org
In closing, the life I have today I owe to Alcoholics Anonymous, you patiently showed me the doorway to experiencing that power greater than myself and allowing me to be of service in all aspects of my life. And for that I am Grateful!
If you have any questions about your District or how to step up for an available committee positions please email me at district2@newmexicoaa.org.
In Service with Love,
Olivia O.

Santa Fe District 2 is alive and well in service. After going to the New Mexico State Assembly in March, it seem to give us a shot in the arm and gave us more inspiration to do the work of Alcoholics Anonymous in Santa Fe. It was the most amount of voting members from Santa Fe that I have seen in several years. Assemblies are the place that we meet with other districts in New Mexico and see how they are doing, get ideas and share our experience, strength and hope with each other. I have come to understand that the triangle of Recovery, Unity and Service is more than a concept, it is the Program of AA. Often I hear people stating that because they are active in their group, sponsor people and share in meetings that that is Service, but according to Bill W. those activities are to unite the group, to aid in our own recovery both the individual as well as the group. It is the Unity side of the triangle.
Service is reaching out into our neighborhood, community and ultimately the world community, to let the suffering alcoholic know that AA is here to help them. It is answering the phone at Central Office, going out on Twelve Step calls. It is working with Recovery Centers, Prisons and Jails to offer help and support when an alcoholic is ready to enter into AA by seeing them to their first meeting, getting them meeting information and of course getting them a Big Book. Service includes Professional and Public information about AA and how to contact us so the courts, community doctors and counselors and schools can offer. It is the Web page that brought you to this message, the Grapevine which is the heart of General Service Office’s message to the World.
The service side of the triangle has brought such joy to my sobriety that reverberates everywhere in my life. I am grateful to come to know this side of the triangle and know the Language of the Heart at a deep and profound level through Service.
We meet once a month on the second Tuesday of every month, 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Board Room at St Vincent’s Hospital. If you have any questions about district or about open positions, please email me district2@newmexicoaa.org
